2009 Filmmakers Camp
August 3-7, 2009 we held the 2009 Rocky Mountain Christian Filmmakers Camp. Our instructor was Norton Rodriguez. Norton has over 25 years of film and television production experience. He is a veteran Film and TV producer, director, and director of photography in the film and television industry/ministry in South Florida.
Winner of three Emmy Awards from National Association of Television Arts and Sciences in production, editing and animation. Norton has worked for TV Networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Univision, Telemundo, MGM Latin America, Gospel Music Channel, TBN, Benny Hinn Television Ministries, El Rey Jesus TV Ministries, Fellowship Ministries (David T. Demola, N.J.), Enlace, G12 Television, El Buen Samaritano TV Ministry, Alpha and Omega TV Ministry (Miami and California) and many others.
At this camp students learned
- How to use a video camera as a storytelling tool
- Basic & Advanced Camera Techniques
- Shot composition
- Considerations when shooting indoors and outdoors
- Working with Jibs and Dollies
- Lighting: Interior and Exterior, lighting for interviews, lighting a set
- Working with boom mics and lavalieres
- Interaction between director and the director of photography
- And much more!
The camp started with some classroom time with Norton explaining various aspects of filmmaking. Then the students had hands-on lab time to try out what they learned. The last two days of camp students put what they learned into practice by shooting a short film called “Hearing God.” Below are some videos from that camp.
